Welcome to Visionary’s Pursuit, a podcast where we explore what it takes to turn your bold and inspiring ideas into reality. I'm Carolina Zuleta. I'm a life and business coach and your host for this podcast. I'm thrilled to have you here.
Hello and welcome back. This is episode 37 of the Visionaries Pursuit Podcast. And you guys, I am so excited because I've been planning something for a while, and finally last week I made it public. But in case you missed it today, I'm gonna tell you all about it. So let me start with a story back. I think it was 2008.
I had just learned what coaching was. I was getting trained, I was learning all about this new world that opened up to me and I was so excited and my mom was visiting me and we went for a walk and I remember. Crystal clear that I told her, mom, you know what, now I know what I want for my future. I wanna own a coaching business.
I don't wanna work part-time. I wanna be able to work from anywhere in the world, and I wanna make as much money as I'm making at Morgan Stanley. Hopefully more. And I came home and this vision was so clear in my mind that I sat down and I wrote it down. And from that moment on, I started working on making this vision, this dream I had, my reality.
So first I started learning about personal development. I hired a coach for myself. I started working on all my inner belief, all my inner world, and discovering so many things that were so exciting about me. Then I decided to go and get my MBA and the two years I spent at the University of Chicago, I took every single course they had about entrepreneurship, and I was the biggest nerd in the front row. Take tons of notes. Imagine how I could apply everything that I was learning to my business. I even participated with an idea for a coaching business in their version of Shark Tank, and I made it to the finals.
Then I met this guy who was also getting his MB at the University of Chicago, and he was starting his own coaching business. But the difference was he already had a contract with McDonald's, so he told me about it and he asked me if I wanted to join him. I said yes, and in my heart I said, you know what?
I'm gonna go work for him some years, learn everything about starting a business so then I can jump and do it on my own.
And that's what I did. I spent six years with him, and those six years were incredible. I learned to manage a team. I learned so many things about starting a business, and I also got even more training in neuroscience and positive psychology and coaching and all the things that are related to what I now love to do.
And then finally I made the decision to start my own business. I really believed I was ready. I knew a lot about business. I had worked for a startup for six years. But none of those experiences could have prepared me for the emotional rollercoaster that it is to have your own business, especially I would say at those very, very, very early stages.
I started feeling so scared about the uncertainty, so hurt about the rejection. I was having a hard time managing my thoughts. And what I did was I went to what I knew was safe. So if you think about our society, what we're taught is that education is safety. We've heard over and over our parents say, well, I'm not gonna leave you any money, but I'm gonna give you the best education.
Meaning like, if you're educated, you're gonna be all right. That's what I did. I turned to more education. I started taking additional courses on how to have an online business, how to run Facebook ads, any marketing strategy that promised that I was gonna be successful. I took the course and I followed the instructions, and I did what they told me, and I got some results, but the results I got were not where I wanted to be.
I kept feeling disappointed over and over again, and that disappointment, I didn't manage it. What I did was create stories that it was the marketing strategy, what was not the right thing, or maybe it was the people I was selling to, or maybe it was that I was charging too much, so I would start reducing my prices, giving discounts.
I did okay. I had okay results for the first several years of my business, but here's where things turned around. Everything in my business shifted the moment I learned to think like an entrepreneur. The moment I dropped the mindset of an employee, of a good student, and I embrace the ambitious risk taking, experimental curiosity, mindset of the CEO of their own business.
I can tell you it was transformative in the income we started making with our business. But also I heard my clients tell me something had shifted. My husband kept telling me, there is something different about you. And the only thing that was different is that I learned to think in a different way. I stopped engaging in a lot of emotional drama when things didn't go my way.
Don't get me wrong. They still hurt me. I still feel disappointed when things don't go my way. Now I can hold on strong to dec seal mindset and evaluate what's happening, make decisions, not because of how I'm feeling, but because I have numbers and strategies that guide me and tell me what is it that I have to do with my business.
This has been so profound to me that of course I started teaching it to my clients and I started seeing how they started getting more results and I started noticing how all of us, my clients and me, and even people that are not my clients, but I know who are entrepreneurs, I started noticing these thought patterns that kept us stuck in places we no longer wanted to be.
And then I started developing tools and strategies and using them in my one-on-one coaching to help my clients get unstuck. And now, today, I am so excited to share with all of you that I've created a six month program for any of you. Who either are thinking about starting a business and you've been holding back because you're scared, because you have doubts, or maybe you're at those very early stages where you're feeling all the emotions, all the discomfort, and you're seeing yourself stuck in places that you're like, I don't wanna be here anymore.
Or even if you're a little bit further along in the journey and now you're facing challenges that scare you, that keep you up at night, that have to do with your payroll or really getting your business to that next level. Any of you who are on the entrepreneurial journey, this program I created for you, it is called the Visionary Mindset Program.
And here's how it's going to go. We're gonna spend six months learning about different aspects of our business as well as our mindset. I am going to teach six different trainings throughout the six months. The first one is gonna be about a vision, and in this training we're going to create our three year plan.
We're gonna get crystal clear who is our customer, what is our offer? As I started reflecting on my journey and what I've helped my clients do, I began to ask myself, how can I ensure the people who enroll in this program can get the best results?
And I went back to those years where I worked. For that company whose main client was McDonald's, and I remember that when we were doing this program for McDonald's, we split McDonald's employees into two groups. The first group was gonna get only trainings and education, and the second group was gonna get private coaching, one-on-one coaching. And because we had this program with McDonald's, we had to demonstrate we were creating results. So we were tracking.
All the things we could possibly track, and we were very clear on which of our students were getting results and who wasn't and who were getting better results. But then we started to see something very interesting. Some of the students that were doing the trainings were also starting to get some coaching, and some of the people that were getting coaching had started participating in the trainings.
And what we saw is that the people who were doing both things were not only getting better results, they were getting exponentially better results. And when we analyzed why, it was because in the trainings, they were using the part of their brain that learns, new things, gathers information, gets educated.
But, and that is amazing, right? When we read a book, when we take a class, we learn something new, we learn a new marketing strategy, we're like, okay, I understand intellectually what this is, but knowing something intellectually doesn't mean we're going to do it. What we now understand about human beings is that having access to information doesn't necessarily mean that we change behaviors.
All of us have a lot of information about what's better for our health or what's better for managing our money, and we still don't do it. Why? Because as human beings, we act from our emotions. It's our emotions that drive our behaviors.
So when we looked at the McDonald's students, we saw them learning new tools and frameworks and ways of thinking, but then in coaching with, did the emotional work so they could be ready to apply those concepts. And that lesson has stuck with me throughout the years. And even today when I have a one-on-one client, I also provide them with trainings because I know the magic of combining both things.
So here's what we're going to do. We are going to spend six months together, and during those six months, each month, you're gonna do a different training in which you're going to learn a new model, a new framework, a new tool, and then in between one training and the next training.
We are going to do group coaching, where we're going to look at how those tools that you learn in the training are applied to your specific circumstance where you're gonna be able to come and share with the group how you are feeling, what's holding you back when you're disappointed. And with my support, you're going to find inside of you the way to navigate the uncertainty, the fear, the worry, so you can start applying these tools and
Having more success in your business. I wish I had this program 5, 6, 7 years ago because I know it would've accelerated my results in a very significant way. So then when I started thinking, okay, what do I wanna teach the students of this program?
What I did was go back to my own story, the lessons I needed, but I also spent a lot of time analyzing all my clients who are entrepreneurs, and even my peers and other people I know who own their own businesses,
. So then I ask myself, what are the most critical lessons that every entrepreneur needs to know? We have to have clarity about what our business is about. Simple things like. What is my three year plan?
Who is my ideal client? What is my offer? What is my price? How do I go about marketing? And I know this sounds very simple, but I can see even in entrepreneurs who are a little bit further ahead, how this still is a tricky question to really understand, and most importantly, to stick to your very simple and clear plan for your business.
I'm gonna help you get very clear on the basics of your business. And also to make it very simple, because in entrepreneurship, complexity blocks our execution.
Businesses that are very simple in the inside can scale and grow way faster than the ones that are very complex. And a lot of the times businesses are complex because we don't have the clarity of who is our ideal client and the emotional capacity to only take those clients that are ideal, versus trying to get everyone and anything because we're scared of not having the revenue.
The second training is gonna be about emotional mastery.
So as I've shared, our emotions drive our behaviors and if we don't know how to navigate those emotions, we're gonna get stuck. So in this training, what we're going to learn, our tools to expand our capacity to be with discomfort, and although our most human basic instincts tell us to avoid uncomfortable emotions. The entrepreneurial journey is filled with uncomfortable emotions. So what we need to do is train ourselves and develop the resiliency that is required to grow a business.
And that's what we're gonna do in the second training. The third training has to do with everything about visibility. Visibility has to do with our marketing strategies, but it also has to do with our ability to. To make our businesses visible to others, so therefore we can get more clients and continue growing and expanding.
But visibility is something that can be very tricky for many of us because we might be scared of failing when everyone is looking at us because we might be worried that if we're being very successful and others are seeing us, maybe our friends, maybe family members will feel jealous or, or they will reject us.
So we're gonna look into and challenge any mistaken beliefs we have about being visible. And we're gonna work on the strategies that we're going to use to make ourselves and our business visible so we can continue to grow.
The fourth training is all about our relationship to sales.
And if we're gonna talk about vulnerability, there's nothing more vulnerable than for us to go out and offer our services, our products, to ask for money from investors, and get rejected.
Being an entrepreneur means we are selling. That's what we do constantly. So we're also gonna clean up any fears, doubts, mistaken beliefs you have about sales. And my goal with that training is to help you fall in love with sales.
And I can tell you that loving sales is absolutely possible because I've seen it over and over again. I used to hate sales. It was the worst part of my business, and now I think it's one of my favorite parts. Then we're gonna move into money confidence. So again, money is a topic in our life that is very tricky.
We all have a lot of beliefs from our childhood, from society that are operating in the backs of our minds
That without us even knowing they're driving how we show up, the decisions we make, the strategies we decide to apply. So we're gonna also explore everything you believe about money, and we're gonna develop some beliefs about money that are empowering, exciting.
That you're gonna be able to be ready to use money as a way to exchange value for your product or service. And we're also gonna expand your capacity to manage and make more of it.
Okay. The last module has to do with our capacity. If you listen to this podcast two episodes ago, I explained what capacities, what are all our different. Types of capacity. So in this training, what we're going to do is learn some tools so we can continuously expand our energetic, physical, emotional, mental capacities.
So we can be the entrepreneurs that are always growing.
So there you have it. We have six trainings spread out through the six months in which you're gonna learn so much about how you think, but you're also gonna learn very practical tools that you can use in your business. Now I was thinking about the experience my clients are gonna have in this program, and I thought to myself, you know what?
I don't like to wait an entire week to ask questions about something that is happening in my business. So I decided to create a platform that's called Ask Kado. So inside the program, you're gonna have this platform where you're gonna be able to go and send me a message with any question that you have.
And in 24 hours you will be receiving an email with all the answers. But I'm also gonna start collecting all these questions and answers and putting them in an FAQ part of the program so you can also see what other students are asking and you can learn from their questions and my answers and we can have this multiplication of knowledge.
So I put this program together and I was so excited, but then I started asking myself, what else, what else is missing here for entrepreneurs to be very successful?
So remember, the goal of this program is not. Only that you learn something new. It's that you actually apply it face the emotional discomfort that comes from doing things inside the business. Learn how to manage your mindset, your thoughts and your emotions.
Strengthen that resilience, strengthen that emotional mastery. So you every day become a stronger entrepreneur. Okay. That's why after each training, we're gonna have three group coaching sessions, and in those sessions, we're gonna do a deep dive into your personal beliefs and thoughts and emotions, as well as any obstacles or ideas that you have for your business. We're gonna talk everything that has to do with you as the entrepreneur and anything that is affecting your business.
You're gonna get to receive coaching, but you're also gonna get to learn from other entrepreneurs as they get coached. And that is invaluable for me. The experience of being in rooms with other entrepreneurs and watching them be coached has sparked ideas. New ways of thinking has made me realize that I have certain blind spots that I didn't even know I had.
There is something very special that happens when we're learning in a group. I truly believe that our collective knowledge expands. So the core components of the program are the trainings and the coaching, but I'm also going to do a very special workshop in which I'm gonna teach you a specific framework, a step by step process. To sell. So this workshop is not gonna be about the mindset of selling.
It's gonna be about how to sell. I realized that unless we've worked in sales, most of us don't know how to sell, and that is a key skill we need to have in order to grow our business.
Our entrepreneurial journey can be very lonely. Most of the time we're at our house by ourselves, staring at a screen trying to figure out problems.
So my vision for this program is that for the next six months, you don't feel lonely. That you know you have me to support you in anything you need to be successful, but you also have access to a community of other entrepreneurs who are in the same journey that you are and that are gonna understand you, not just intellectually, but viscerally
Because they're also gonna be experiencing the same challenges, emotional rollercoaster, and wins that you will, on this journey.
I believe that we don't want things randomly. I believe that our desires are compass to our destiny. And if you have the bug of being an entrepreneur, don't dismiss it. Wherever you are, you can get to where you wanna go.
